Agustín Escobar, a prominent executive at Siemens España, his wife Mercè Camprubí Montal, a global marketing director at Siemens Energy, and their three young children, aged 4, 5, and 11, boarded a Bell 206 helicopter operated by New York Helicopter Tours for an aerial view of the city. Tragically, their celebratory flight ended in disaster.

The helicopter took off from the Downtown Manhattan Heliport at precisely 2:59 p.m., commencing its sixth flight of the day. The planned route featured key landmarks, including the Statue of Liberty and the George Washington Bridge. At around 3:08 p.m., the aircraft executed a turn near the George Washington Bridge at an altitude of approximately 1,000 feet, then proceeded south along the New Jersey shoreline.
